We’re so excited to offer a fun and safe space for children to learn, play, and relax after school!
Our schedule
Johnswell Afterschool runs Monday to Friday during the school term, following the Johnswell School calendar.* We take a break during school holidays!
*Please note the school may have adhoc days off (for example for weather or teacher training), the afterschool will not open on those days
We offer three flexible session times to suit your family’s needs:
🕑 2:00 – 3:00 PM
🕑 2:00 – 6:00 PM
🕒 3:00 – 6:00 PM

🌟 Good news! We’re registered with the National Childcare Scheme (NCS), which means you may be eligible for subsidised afterschool care. All we need from you is a CHICK Number which you will get once you have applied for the subsidy. Click here to learn more about how to apply!
Food and snacks
We’re working on bringing delicious hot meals to our afterschool program soon! But for now, we ask parents to send a healthy snack and drink with their child each day.
🚫 Nut-free zone! To keep all our little ones safe, please avoid packing nuts in snacks.
We’ll keep you updated on when our hot meal service launches!
Fun & Activities
We set aside 30 minutes each day for homework, so kids can get their tasks done before heading home. After that, it’s time for fun! 🎨🏃♂️🎭
Children will enjoy a mix of exciting activities, including:
✅ Arts & crafts
✅ Drama & storytelling
✅ Sports & outdoor play
✅ …and much more!

Pricing
2 – 3pm
€5 per day
(E.g., €2.86 per day + NCS universal subsidy)
Children will be collected from the Junior room at 2pm and brought to the Afterschool room.
2 – 6pm
€20 per day
(E.g., €11.44 + NCS universal subsidy)
Children will be collected from the Junior room at 2pm and brought to the Afterschool room.
A light snack will be provided.
3 – 6pm
€17 per day
(E.g., €10.58 + NCS universal subsidy)
Children make their own way to the Afterschool room within the school after school finishes.
A light snack will be provided.
National Childcare Scheme
What is the National Childcare Scheme (NCS)?
The NCS provides financial support to help families with their early learning and childcare costs.
There are two types of subsidies available for children aged between 24 weeks and 15 years of age:
- A universal subsidy which is not means tested and provides €2.14 per hour for a maximum of 45 hours per week;
- An income-assessed subsidy which is means tested and will be calculated based on your family’s individual circumstances. Rates will vary depending on your level of family income, your child’s age and educational stage, and the number of children in your family.
You should apply for whichever subsidy is of the greatest benefit to you and your family. A subsidy calculator is available here which will help you estimate how much you may be eligible for before you apply.
How do I apply for the NCS?
You can apply online for the subsidy here using a verified MyGovID. Should you need guidance, please see the online Application guide, here.
Alternatively, you can contact the Parent Support Centre on 01 906 8530 to request a postal application. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
Once your application is approved, you can use your subsidy with Johnswell Afterschool Service by supplying your CHICK Number when completing booking.
